BURNING A CHILD.
At the Clonmel Petty Sessions rer cently, two women, named Kourke and 0 Cummins, were prosecuted for having c burnt a child three years old by placing ') him naked on a hot shovel, The act 3 > was the result of gross superstition on n their part, the two women alleging that the child was an old man left by '" the fairies as a substitute for a real i child whom they had taken from its 16 mother. The charge was proved against flqurkp, and sj)e was sentenced to a week's imprisonment, the Jfayor being of opinion that as slje has been jn custqdy since tl)e occurrence, the addition of a week's imprisonment r would satisfy the demands of justice. [, He strongly characterised the ignoranoe and superstition which she had ut shown.
