' The first oj a series pf concerts ip j aid of St. Luke's Church, Qreytqwn, ,f was given on Monday night at the e Town Hall, A large number of d tickets had been disposed of, and though • it came on wet just before the hour of opening the. doors, the hall was well B filled when the entertainment commenced. In addition to local talent t there were present Mrs Seed, Mrs . Samuel, and Messrs Wilson and g Dellar, of Carterton; Mr Stevenson, t of Featherston; Mr and Mrs W, J. f Martin, from the Lower 'Valley, and 6 Miss Beard, of Masterton, A pretty jj piano by, Mrs, Sepd and, % Wilson opened the programme, Mr ,_ Black following with a song ''True to y the Last," Mrs Hume sang very b sweetly "Little Nell," and being 6 enoored gave" Ye Banks and Braes," 3 accompanying herself on the piano, Mr 8 Stevenson sang "Mr Queen." Mrs ,' Seed sang " 1 Think on Thee." Mr a Dellar received an encore for his song " We Tars that o'er the Ocean Sail." | Messrs Stevenson and Black sang as a tt duet "I am the King of Spain," Mr Q Gray wpepored for his gqrig «'l >f Pear no foe.' 1 ; Miss Bowler opened y the second part of the entertainment n with a seleo'aion on the piano, and r acquitted herself (well. : Mr W. J. „ Martin sang."Who is Sylvia 1". and a was warmly encored. ■ The playing of :, a'piano solo by 'Miss'Beard was highly d appreciated, and she had to play another j* selection in response to a prolonged ■ encore. Mrs Samuel was encored for her J : song "The Old Cottage Clock," Mrs j Hijrne at the peanp,, anp] Mr. M,. s with, the poppet played a dupt. Mr Wilson's sqiig f'fhe Skipper's Flag' 1 was encored. The encore of the r. evening fell to Mrs Hume for her song i| "Dream Facas," Her rendering of it it was excellant,: and in- reply to a r rapturous encore'she gave "When other lips and other Hearts," Mr Gray, '• during the evening, 'thankefj 'the.
