WAIRARAPA INSTITUTE.

(From the Standard), The annual meeting of ihe subscribers of the Institute was held on Tuesday last, Mr W, Skeet was voted to the ohair, The minutes of the last annual meeting wore read and confirmed, : "'. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted, The following is the report Your committee in presenting the anuual report and balance sheet have to congratulate the subscribers 011 the very satisfactory state ot the Institute, and tho progress made during the last twelve months, This result is, no doubt, due to the increased amount of subscriptions being as will be seen by the balance sheet, £52 17s, or £2O more than last year, and also to the handsome donation of £2l made to the institute by W. O. Buohanan Esq., M.H.R. These with the Government subsidy of 122 3s 7d, make the total receipts £10915s Bd, Over one hundred new volumes have been added to the library during the year some of them being standard works of great value. A great number of the old works have also been rewound. The thanks of this meeting are due to Mr Buohanan for his liberal donation, and also to Mr Skeet tor several dona* tione of books, firewood, #c. ' The retiring committee are Messrs Skeet, Porrit, Wood, Brooks, Gray, Bey, Nation, Webster, Revs Western and Young, all of whom are elegible for reelection, J, P. Ruaael Esq., was re-elected President. . Messrs W. O. Buchanrn, M,H,R., and Ooleman Phillips were elected Vice Presidents The following gentlemen were elected a committee Messrs Porritt, Wood, Brjoks, Skeet, Gray, Nation, Bey, Wlbster, and Be'vs, Western and Young. .Mr G. Wyett was elected auditor. ■ 1 A yote of thanks was passed to the' 'outgoing'committee, the auditors, and the Rev. W. T. Western for donation of papers tor the reading room.
