Beetham (Chairman), n Dugg, Chamberlain, Macquarrie, dnd u ' E, Meredith iunior, The minutes of the previous meeting d were read and confirmed, ■u rs CORRESPONDENCE, rf ■ A letter was read from T. W. 0 Parker urging a refund of a part of his D deposit on the Fernridge road,—Mr Dagg stated that there had been a loss '£ through Mr Parker not carrying out " the work, Jr and there was no balance II available out of which to make a rere fund, but he thought £6 was enough it for Parker to lose. It was resolved that one half of ,the deposit .£6 be )f refunded.—A letter was read from ig the Colonial Treasury office re money k received from lands on deferred pay--18 ments.—Mr Macquarrie called attention to the fact that the Department "* had not given a specific reply to the ; n Boards application. A letter was [B read from tho Public Works Department, directing the sending of newspapers containing notices under the y Roads and Bridges Act to the Public y Works office, a The report of the roadmen in (he g employ of the Board for the past month. 16 was read. S| The chairman pointed out that No 5 Q ' Ward was not in a position to keep a B permanent roadman, It had a debit 0 balance of £291, its rates producd but if £l2O a year, and if £IOO were paid to 8 a roadman the balance was insufficieril; l a to reduce the debt. . A letter was read from settlers in No 5 Ward, asking that the election of the-new Board might be delayed, as it [ 8 was proposed to form a new Whareama i Board. 'Tho letter was signed by e Messrs Moore, Tatham, Donald, Nitz, it Hitching, and Bennett, who intimated ir fcjja t Messrs Morrison and Elder would £ join the movement, ,) Mr E, Meredith, jun., said he was : j disposed to oppose the proposal, and he. e thought Mr Elder would not support it it. He hoped the question would bo e allowed to stand over for the present, s —The Chairnan said it would be 6 necessary to reduce the expenditure in ® No. 5 Ward. Mr E, Meredith, jun., e said he would like to see a statement a of accounts before thjs was t Mr Macquarie said it had been under--8 stood that when any Ward was over . £IOO in debt no more money should be 8 b advanced to it,—The Chairman said ' that now the Board was being disraemj bered they must be careful to avoid any p serious complication arising from unit due advances.-*—Mr Meredith, jun,, " said No. J Ward was the onjypnein ' credit. The Chairman suggested 6 that a man should be occasionally put j on for a month, or two in No. 5 Ward, 0 but that they could not afford a pere nianent hand. It was agreed that in . accordance with Mr E. Meredith's 1 wish the question should be postponed ' for one month. 6 An application was read from.
