Scrutineer, the vet., says:-I was called iii professionally by the trainer of Oauliflora after tho Triennial Steeplechase to prescribe, Oil arriving at his quarters Ifound him in a helpless condition, apparently suffering from strangulation of the exehequmtes. His mouth and ears were cold and clammy, the inner membrane of the eyelids and lining of the nostrils very pale, pulse thin and wiry, belly fearfully distended, Agony' great, as expressed by his groans and violent efforts to change his position; suddenly breaking out in a sweat, succeeded by cold chills and muscular twitchings ; respiration quick, occasionally interrupted by convulsive sighs —his vital powers ebbing fast, On enquiry I found that his trainer had been bleeding him immediately after the race. He excused himself, saying that he thought it was a case of bloodpoisoning as there had been a scabby individual knocking about tho stye where he was trained. He said lie was advised to rubb Sutt-m him as a disinfectant, but found it did him harm, I recommended him to blister him at once as he required a counter irritant. " You bet, sir 1" he replied, " I'll Mister him well, I'll guarantee." As
lie showed symptoms of Ophthalmia I advised him to shade his eyes from the Stars, and let him have a Daily run in the orchard, and on no account attempt to House him this winter.
