EXTRAORDINARY SUICIDE IN A MUSIC HALL.
In a music hall at Motherwell, Lanark* /I shire, a retired grocer named' John Middle- jra ton, about fifty years of age, committed r* suicide in view of the entire audience, about * ' seven hundred children belonging to the several schools m the town. Middleton had taken three of his family to the hall, and after the performance had been proceeding for some time, sprang to his feet with an open razor in his hand, and exclaiming, " That is a mookeiy, this is a reality l"drew the razor across his throat, and cut it from ear to oar, He died in a few minutes. The screams of the children were fearful, and a rush was mado for the front door. The manager of the hall ran to tho door and was just in time, as several ohildron had fallen. The door opened to the outside, and in a short time the hah was empty. Some of the children fainted after reaching the strcor. Middleton had said to his wife before going to the hall that he would be a dead man in two hours and a-half.
