EPITAPH OF CHARLE3 READE.
The following (writes a correspondent oi the "Pall Ain.ll Gazette") is nn exact copy of the inscription to be placed on Char o< tele's tombstone, for tho accuracy ol which 1 can vouch. It was written bv himself :-
Hero Lie, By the Side of his Beloved Friend, Tho Mortal Remains of !i. _ Charles Reade, Dramatist, Novelist, and Journalist. Hijjfe words to mankind are on this I hopy for a resmrection, not from any power in nature, but from the will of the Lord Rod Omnipotent, who made nature and vffl He created man out of nothinz, which nature could not. He can restore man ,'tom the dust, which nature oannot.
And 1 hope for holiness and happiness in a future life, not for anything I have said or dono in this body, but from the merits and meditation of Jesus Christ, He had promised His intercession to all who seek it, and Ho will not break His word-that intercession, once granted, cannot bo rejected, for He is God, and His merits infinite j a man's sins are but human and finite.
"Him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cutout," "If any man sin, we have ah advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Eighteous, and He is tho propitiation for our sins,"
