The phenomenal peculiarity of amisplaced heart lias If en brought to public light as existing (in tho .body of a man who has been.a resident of the St.' Cloud Hotel, Philadelphia, for tho past six years. Ho is a major' in the United States army, The discovery that the major's heart was located on tho. right side of his body instead of on the left wasnmdoliy Dr. J. T. Hampton in 1881, while the former, was undergoing a diagnosis for lung, trouble. Dr. Hampton discovered that the heart was located four inches out of place, and on the righthand side. The heart was abnormally fast, and. an undue appetite was developed in the patient, To remedy this later sympton and the slight lung trouble, Dr Hampton advised him to go to Europe. He was told that the misplacement of tho heart was not inconsistent with perfect health, and that ho wouid probably live as long as if the organ were in the proper place, Dr Hampton pronounces such cases extremely rare, that of the St. Cloud Hotel man being tho second that ever came to his direct knowledge, Maurice Baymand, a great French authority, says that the heart may be in the neck, at the base of the skull,'in the neighborhood of the jaw, in a depression on the surface of tho liver. or between the stomach and the liver. The most curious case of misplacement is reported by Deschamp, It was that of a man who lived heartily, was married, had three children but (lied suddenly.
