J. G. Ingram v Alfred' Elkins.— Allowing a chimney, to catch fire. Sergeant McArdle called by the informant stated that on the night of the 31st inst a chimney in the Club Hotel was on fire.
The Court: It does not require much proof of the fact. The Inspector said he understood from Mr Elkins that there had boen neglect on the part of the sweep.
The Court inflicted a fine of 20s and costs. .:
J. Vile v Nga Ori Tamihana,— Debt, £3 14s lOd. Mr Beard for plaintiff. Judgment for £ll2s lOd and costs, a sum of £2 2s being admitted by defendant. It was explained to the defendant that as he had put plaintiff to the trouble of proving the claim, he would have to pay costs for witnesses, ic, amounting to £3. Mackersay v Mackersay.—Protection order. Adjourned case. Mr Skipper stated that in this case of matrimonial disagreement no mutual arrangement had been arrived at. Mrs Mackersay wished to know whether when her husband got well an order for money in her favor might be made. There were debts owing in the town.
Tho Court explained that .Mrs Mackersay was not liable for her husband's debts, and her own earnings woiild be protected. '.-'. ...
