The Wairarapa Daily. FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 1884. THE SITUATION.

An adjournment of the House has been granted to enable Ministers to consider their position. We understand that Major Atkinson made no effort to prevent an adverse vote being recorded against Ins Government, as lie felt that he had no longer an absolute majority in the House, Two courses now lie before liiin. One is to advise His Excellency to send for Sir George Grey, whose position as ex-Premier entitles liini to a preference over Mr Montgomery, and the other to ask Ilis Excellency for a dissolution. The feeling of the House and the country is against Sir George Grey being placed in power, even for a nominal period, and if Major Atkinson is true to himself and to tlio colony, ho will adopt the latter alternative and go to the country himself.

The Masterton Fire Brigade appear to be suffering glider a grievance, and there is a whisper of disbandmeht. It is also said that Captain Muir contemplates retiring from the brigade at an early date. Jt is quite clear that the brigade cannit afford to lose Captain Muir, and (that Masterton cannot afford to lose the brigade. If grievances exist it would be better for the brigade to bring them plainly before the Borough Council and the public &o that an effort might be made to remove them, The brigade lias done such good service to the town in the past that we feel aire the sympathies of the community aje with it, and that there wou'.d be every desire to meet any reasonable rejuest which the members of it might {'refer.
