RAILWAY RETURNS
The ; Government railway returns for the four weeks ending 26th April, aro publialied in the Gazette, For the North Island the revenue amounted to £23,319 8s 10d, and for tlio Middle Island to £70,182 Os 4d, making a total for the colony of £93,501 9s 2d. The; expenditure was £l 4,310 9s 4d, and' £34,518 19s 5d for the two islands respectively. The revenue for the North Island ivas £4874 7s 9d more, and for the Middle Island £327 9s 9d more than for the corresponding period last year. For the North Island the increase of expenditure wus £1420 13s; for the Middle Island there was a decrease of £IGO2 4s lOd. The total increase of mileage was for the North Island 25 miles, and for the Middle Island 17 miles. There was a slight falling off in the revenue from the Nekon and Picton linos, but an increase in the revenuo of all the other principal lines, both in the North and in the Middle Islands.
