EDUCATION BOARD.
(From the PoBt). _-The ordinary monthly meeting of the Education Board was held at 10 o'clock yesterday momintr, and wsb attended by Messrs J, R. Blair (Chairman), W; Hutchison, KE.K, and T. Mason, M.H.R., Dr Newman, M.H.R., Bor. J Paterson, and Mr H. Bunny. Resignations were accepted as follows: .--Kate Francis, Olam -Francis, aad F. .Baß6Dtt.
o Miss L.: Keeling, oi the'Masterton Bohool, applied for an iaorease of salary, whioh was refused. A similar application was; made by Mr James 0. Ward, which was also declined.
The Porirua School Committee reooinmended the appointmenVof Miss'Courte as sewiiig tsachsr and assUiaut mistress. ;The. Beard decided to grant her a tonus of 110 for the year, ; Mr W. Price was appointed to the Wadestown Sohool.
The Wadestown Committee applied for a refund of 355, the cost of re erecting school fence that had been blown 1 down during the recent gale.' The- application was refused, -,.,
The Petone Committee wrote refusing to appoint Miss Archer to the local school until all the applications for the position, together' With certificates. 'of competency, had been submitted. It was resolved to point out that there were only two appli. oationß. and the second, applicant had already been appointed to another,'school. Mrs, Francis asked for '6s-for two picture stands ehe had obtained, and the communication was referred to the locul committee; ■ "
■•' TbeTawa Flat Committee applied k £7 for repairs to teacher's residence. Referred back' to the commitiee for details.
The Makarawa -Committee disked for the erection of a wet weather shed, and it was decided to apply f ot an estimate of the coat.
. It was agreed to call for tenders for fencing at Vogeltowu. .-.■■• The Wangaehu Committee applied for £ 3O for ieaoing. Kefused An application for the reconstruction of the .teacher's residence at Tmui was referred to the architect for report, _i The Board to give a'grant of £4 id aid of the establishment of a school at Kaiwliata.
On the motion of Mr Hutobison it wasresolved, "Tnat none "of the Board's lenchers shall permit the. gratuitous employment of any young persons in their Bchoolson the promise; enher expressed or implied, of a future engagement by the Board; no buoli employment must he. entered iippn henceforth without the * sanoiion of the Board first sought and 4 obtained." • *^
The following appoiulrnenls. were madei-Assistant, Te Aro-Mr "£) M. Yeats. Assistant, Mount Cook' Boys' School-Mr T. A. Cox. Miss Payne promoted to acting'mistress at the Terrace School for six months,' Master, Eketi* huna-Mr S.Hopkirk. Pupil teaohersThorndon Infant Schoul,- Luoy (tmnsferred); Termce, Ella H, Mills j Mount Cook Girls', Kate Madden; Mount Cook Infants', M. A. Stevenson and Lizzie Bait; Te Aro, Sara Frastir, ; ' Tenders were received for the erection of the Terrace and Thorndon Sohools, and were referred to the Finance Committee without being opened. The tender of Mr Harris was accepted for fencing at Pe'one.
The Board then went into Committee to consider the question of Normal Sohool appointments, aud on resuming it was reported' that a resolution had been arrived at to the effeot that applications be invited for the whole of the appointments. ..
