(to the editor,) Sir,—l feol somewhat reliovcd by confession of your "own" Pahiatua correspondent that he is a •' little gone in the upper storey." It is perhaps to be regretted that being in such a condition be trusts so much to "fancy" and "belief" in the. endeavor to make quotations of figures relative to County expenditure. For his information I may state the expenditure : on the Forty-Miie Bush road for December last as shown by the accounts keptin connection therewith stands thus:— Maintenance, wages, repairs, <fec., 469 18s lid; proportion engineer's salary charged, 1416s 2d j and for JanuaryMaintenance, wages, repairs, &c,, ilo7 4s; proportion engineer's salary charged, £3 4s Id. V Perhaps this explanation will prove to your correspondent that the gentleman he to, and who he says
