■■-.■■' Bluff, Monday. The Oriental Bank Corporation has despatched a special steamer to tho Mauritius to close agencies in that Island.
The British- shareholders of this Bank have determined to form themselves into a Defence Committee to protect their own interests. Christchurch, Monday. An unoccupied house of twenty-two rooms, next to tho Gladstone Hotel, Peterborough, was destroyed by fire early this morning. It is evidently the work of an incendiary.
P. W. W. Brooke, employed at the Kaiapoi Woollen Factory, committed suicide by cutting his throat. He had suffered from iU'liealth and low spirits for sonie time.
