FOOTBALL

The Masterton Club turned out in fsiir forco on Saturday afternoon; about twenty-five players taking part in: a scratch match. Sides were picked by Messrs Harvey and J. Perry, and after a good game the latter's team proved victorious by a goal and two or three tries to love. Some very good play was observable during the game, Joe Perry being especially noticeable, while his brothers were all about. From his play on Saturday, wo believe Frank Perry will make ono of tho finest forwards of the Club. His following up was really good, and he was the.only one on Saturday to shew any knowledge of dribbling. Harvey, 1 as usual, was always on the ball. Wo were glad to see J., Hawke stripped, and though: not : in anything 1 like form, he was never far from the leather. 0. Perry and Beth uno kicked well, the former especially making, some splendid "drops," Bethune made some fine runs, and if played at quarter will take a lot of stopping, j The Bannisters played up well, and oiio of the Maoris made things lively for the opposing side. If the forwards will only, stick together, and get into proper form, wich such players as Joe Perry, Bethune, and Hawke directly behind the scrummage, the team ought, to make things lively'for any clufr they may meet during the season. .

In the evening a general meeting of the club was held, Mr'AV. McKenzie : in the chair. Messrs J. Perry and Williams were appointed Delegates -to the Union, and the following resolution was passed:—"That this club view, with dissatisfaction the' picking of' the Selection Committee of the Union for the New Zealand Football Team,.and that at the next meeting of the Union, it be an instruction to ciur Delegates to endeavor to get . the 'rule- appointing that Committee, amended, so-thai af, senior clubs shall be,represented, upon. The meeting then adjourned, ~
