i »- .-■;;. A special meeting of tliejCouncil was fyld last evening for the 'purpose of adopting the balance sheet and considering by-laws. Present-Cra Gapper, PHce, Perry, Johnston, and Williams. Or Gapper, in the absence of His WoVship the Mayor, was voted, to the' : chair;, 'i BALANCE SHEET.

The balance sheet was read. Th(| Chairman said the balance sheet was a satisfactory one, they started with a 1 greatly reduced debit balance,, and arrears of rates had been greatly decreased, He moved that the balance sheet be adopted.

Or Williams seconded.—Carried unanimously.

The burgess roll for tho year 1884-5 was then signed, the clerk remarking that there were many more names on it this year owing to the fact that several had paid up their arrears of rates. NEW BY-LAWS. The following by-laws were then considered and adopted:—l. A by-law to license' chimney sweeps, and fixing' the maximum charges for sweeping chimneys. 2. Making it compulsory that the services of a licensed nightman should be used periodically by owners or oecupiers of all dwellings within 50 feet of each other in any part ot the Borough, Also: making provision for the removal of garbago'aud refuse matter from all premises where, required, the Council reserving the power to extend the operations of the by-law, if at any time it was deemed 'necessary. \ The Council then adjourned, ,
