THE SALVATION ARMY AND TOWN LANDS TRUST.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l notice that the Masterton Town Lands Trustees met on I'riday evening last, three members beiug present, and that a clause; was ordered to be inserted in the leise to the Salvation Army for the building to be painted within six months. .My opinion is that the trustees present lacked tho perception that would be expected from sachexperienced.jjublic servants, or they would have included the cottage and fence in the clause. And seeing, sir, that the Army have got l their alterations of ; the barracks in such a forward state as not to be in a position to reject these clauses, tho trustees should havo appointed a committee to ascertain what other necessities could be included in the lease.
The construction of a footpath, 'a; lamp at the corner, and the right of using the building as a Town Hall when required—as it will he suitable when finished—should be imposctl.upon them. I" •
But, sir, should the Trust act upon these few suggestions, I think it would only/ bo fair and manly to let the Salvationists have a voice in the matter, by making the officer in charge an ex officio member o£ tho Trust, The would nothavo the appearance of imposition, and the Trustees would be better thought of among Anti-Salvationists,
