A NEW USE FOR STRING BINDERS.
Under the above heading the " Bathurst Times" writes:—" It appears probable that the string binder, uoiv coming into such general favor, will be extensively used in hay nuking. It is claimed that, by binding the hay as it is cut,' many advantages are secured. The use of the horse-rake is dispensed withes the binder leaves nothing behind it; the sheaves are easily handled and.stacked, and the necessity for the elaborate management of windows and cocka'is done away with. Probably the greatest advantage is the cleanliness with which the binding process is conducted. Hay cut loosely and left on the ground to be raked and tossed about musfcj in.the nature of things gather a great deal of dust and dirt. No one who has seen a horserake at work on a dry day doubt that in careless hands it is as likely to gather as much dirt as hay, All this is obviated by the use of the string binder, which cuts and binds the crop as clean as it grows. Hay in sheaves, when well saved, ir always fetches a high price, on account of its convenience for chaff cutters and the stalks lying one way ready for feeding the machine, and ensuring an uniform length in the chaff. We can recommend the new idea to the consid eration of our agricultural friends."
