Professor Leono Levi tells us that, as the result of inquiries made into tho average earnings of the working classes between 1851 and 1881, he ascertained that the increase in the income of tho lowermiddleclasses had been thirtyseven per cant., while in that of the working classes it ■ was ■ fifty-nine per cent,, thus corroborating Mr. Giffen's recent statement as to the improvement in the position of the working classes. These two able statisticians have independently investigated the 6nbjcct, and have both arrived at the same conclusion.
