STURGE'S MOTIVE POWER.
We (British Mail) understand that a private syndicate (as preliminary to Hie formation of a public company) has been incorporated for the purpose of acquiring the English and Foreign patent rights of Mr Sturge in " the in-, vention of an improved means of generating or producing motive power for facilitating tho propulsion of tricycles and other light carriagas and constructions, and for driving light machinery generally." Owing to the incompleteness of some of the foreign patents, particulars of the invention are withheld for the present from all but the members of the syndicate, by whose sanction, however, its objects are stated as follows :
1. Propelling power is provided, and no personal exertion is required beyond guiding the carriage, 2. Any rate of speed, up to 15 miles an hour, is attainable. 3. The length of the journey is immaterial.
4. The carriage will travel uphill as easily and almost as vapidly as on a level road.
5. The power applied is especially adapted lor rough or heavy roads. G. The apparatus is most easily regulated and controlled, and the carriage can be guided with equal facility and stopped instantaneously.
.7. The propelling power is contained in a very small compass, and is of no appreciable weight.
8. The cost of construction is exceedingly moderate, from £2 to .£3 being sufficient to adapt the apparatus.
