TWO LOVERS IN A FIX.

According to aMelbournc newspaper, nil amusing incident occurred on board the Royal mail steamer Cartlinge on her last trip from Adelaide, During Jier stay at Adelaide a young couple, amongst others, came off to her and leisurely proceeded round the ship on a tour of inspection. After surveying the saloon and other parts of the noble vessel, the time arrived when they thought they would go ashore; but, alas! When tlicy got 011 deck they found that they were clear of the Glenelg and bowling along with a full head of steam for Melbourne at the rate of 15 knots an hour. The feelings of the gallant gentleman can bo better imagined than described when, with ninepence in his pocket and his ladylove in his cliaige, lie sought the advice of the captain. The latter seeing how matters stood found accommodation for them in the second cabin. On the particulars becoming known to the passengers, they at once raised a subscription and presented the unfortunate couple with £ls to tide over their enforced trip. But there was some trouble in storo for tlieni, for the vessel took a sea over' the side (about the only one of the voyage round), which completely drenched them. This was far from agreeable, as they had 110 change of raiment; but the passengers again came nobly to the front and supplied tlicm with enough clothing to start a small draper's shop. Tlicy return to Adelaide with the best wishes of the passengers, and a strong impression of their romantic visit to Melbourne, which wo hope they will be enabled to look back upon in after years as a pleasant reminiscence.
