MASTERTON V.. GREYTOWN.

The return'match between the above Clubs, which was .lookejl, forward to with a good deal of interest was played in Mr G. Dixon's paddock on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in an easy, victory for the home team by ten wickets. The visitors did not arrive ■ in Masterton till about 12.30, owing to la difficulty in getting tho team together, which had to bo made up with several emergency men, and as tho home team had received no intimation 'as to what time to expect their opponents, some rather strong expressions were made on the assumed dis|couVteayof the visitor/thereby putting ithe| Masterton to'a deal of inconvenience, some of the.latter players being on the ground from nine o'clock. The Masterton oleven was not by any means the strongest, five of those selectod being unable to play. However, when the. Greytown mdudid arrive, a start was quietly, made, Harrison won the toss from Webster "and took the field, cho whole of the visiting team being disposed of by the , bowling of Perry and Harrison for 30 runs. ■ W. Judd was the only one to gei into double figures, W. Udycom- . ing next with 7 not out. The¥aster- , ton men then went in to the bowling , of Judd and Cuff, .and succeeded in putting together 51, Hathaway being , top scorer with 17 not out, McKenzie and J. Williams making 9 each. With 21 runs to the bad the Greytown men went in for their second innings, but only managed to put together 27, Huwke making 13, thus leaving the Masterton only 7 to get to win, which •was done without the loss'of a< wicket. Some very good fielding was shown by both teams, the Masterton men doiug much better than on any previous occasion. J. Williams, behind the wickets, Minifie at longstop, and Bethune_ were especially noticeable. For Grey/town tho longstopping of Hawke was excellent, only one bye being got. Jackson also saved some runs by sorao smart work. After the match cheers were oxchanged by the teams, and after partaking of some refreshment, the visitors returned home by brake.. Mr J.
