PRESS PASSES.
The Government, after long deliberation has decided to suspend the issue of free passes to the press of the colony, substituting in place thereof a system of season tickets for newspaper reporters at' half the ordinary rates. The Government have not the courage to determine press passes absolutely, so they offer a sop in the shape of half rates to reporters, We do not believe that the conditions of this alternative proposal will nt all meet the convenience of njwspapew in the colony. Either they will have to be modified to suit newspaper proprietors or there will be trouble in the land, We congratulate the Government upon their having the courage to touch the free pass system, The tliin end of the wedge is in, and though the Government are very unlikely to drive it home, public opinion will.
