MASTERTON TOWN LANDS TRUST.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Trustees was held last evening. Present—Messrs Feist (Chairman), Have, McCardle, Perry, and Gapper. The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported that he had let the old school house at a weekly rent of one pound to the Salvation Army. A deputation from the Army would wait upon the Trustees with a view to making a more permanent arrangement, Tho Chairman thought the letting was a satisfactory one, Something had been said about the means of egress, but that was an objection which would apply to other buildings in the town. CORRESPONDENCE, An application was read from E. S. Richards asking the Trustees to pay the rates on the property leased by him, as he understood that he would not have been saddled with so high a rate. Mr # Hare objected to paying the rates, as if they did this for Mr Eichards they would have to do it for other tenants,
The application was refused, the Trustees expressing their regret that they were not in a position to comply with the request,
A letter was reud from the Department of Justice re supposed error in description of title of Court acre, also another forwarding conveyance for execution. The Secretary reported that the money for the purchase had been paid.
A letter was read from Mr Carr, asking to bring part of acre No. 2 under the new improvement regulations of the trustees, '"> The Chairman thought there would be no objection the application, The Secretary suggested that a Standing Committee should be appointed to deal with such applications, The present rental was £8 a year; in three or four years' time under the conditions of the lease it would havo doubled.
Mr McOardle approved of the suggestion made by Mr Brown and moved that the Chairman, Mr Gapper, and the mover be appointed a Standing Committee to report on this and other applications. : Mr Hare pointed out that giving Mr Carr a long lease might prevent them at some future time from erecting a Town Hall. He seconded the resolution. Mr Perry suggested that 'Mr Bish's name be added, Mr Gapper moved as an amendment that the Trust as a whole be a Committee, three to form a quorum. Mr Bish seconded the amendment. Mr McOardle expressecUan:opinion that a small committee would; do the work better than a committee aa a whole.

It was resolved that tho Secretary be authorised to take the necessary steps to recover rents in avrear, NEW LEASE, The text of tho now lease granted to Messrs McGregor Bros, was read, and, with some slight alterations, was approved of, A SAFE, Tho Secretary reported that a safe was necessary for the custody of tho documonts of the Trust. A committee was appointed to procure ono if deemed necessary, DEPUTATION, Mr Baynton waited on the Trust on behalf of the Salvation Army, and offered to take the old schoolroom for two years, with the option of taking it for ten, provided tho right of making improvements were conceded. The Chairman thought that the Trustees would require a proper plan of the proposed improvements before they could determine the application, Mr Baynton inquired if the Trustees would accept a less sum than ono pound a week. The Chairman said that would depend upon whether the proposed improvement: wou'do.ihance the value of the property. Mr Baynton slated that they would not want the whole of tho acre. It was arranged to adjourn tho meeting for one week, when'the plan required would be forthcoming. The meeting then adjourned,
