LAND BOARD.

A meeting of this Board was held yesterday. -.'Present—Mr J". Gr. Holdsworth, commissioner (in the chair), Mr H. Bunny, and Mr W, W. Taylor. The schedule of land sold sinco last meeting was read and approved. It showed that 410 a 3r 27p had beeii disposed of, representing £585 17s, of which £9616s lid had been received on account, A letter was received from the Kiwitea Highway Board ashing permission to spend whatever deferred payment money was at the credit of the Board on a road outside the Block, to connect with tho Makino road, such work being for the benefit of the whole block, It was resolved tb grant the application, Messrs G-. Wilhelm and J. Taionskowski, settlers in Ongo Survey District, objecting to the proposed expenditure' of deferred payment money by the Kiwitea Highway Board. Tho chairman read the reply of tho latter Board, and said it had been communicated to the settlers referred to, A letter was read from Mr W. T, L, Travers asking permission for Mr W. Peart to pay the balance on his section No. 8, Block XI,, Mungahao, The report of Crown Lands Ranger was read, and it was resolved that upon payment of the balance of purchase money and Crown grant fee, the certificate of title can issue, A similar application was received from Mr W. 11. Waters in' reference to section 26, block VIII., Mangahao, . The Crown Lands Ranger reported that his, inspection on this section would not be due till February, 1885, and that, therefore, he was un> 1 able to state accurately whether all the required improvements had been made. The Board resolved that until the ranger's report was to hand, they declined to certify that the applicant was entitled to his grant. A letter was read from Mr J. Cooper, asking permission to purchase part of section 267, Block VII., Wainuioru. It was resolved that tho request be not complied with, The Clerk of the Wairarapa East County Council wrete to the Board for a general permission to be given to the Council to authorise contractors to cut timber off Crown Lands. The Chairman reported that the Government had approved of local bodies taking timber from blocks in the Seventy Mile Bush for public works, and it was resolved to reply to the Council accordingly. Mr Mason applied for one month's leave of absence, which was granted. The Board then adjourned.
