CASTLEPOINT ROAD BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Board was held on. Saturday last. .. PresentMessrs Mabkay (Chairman), Langdon, Bellis, Harvey, Telford and Williams. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a balance in the bank of £18716s Td. Accounts to the amount of £167 15s 7d were presented and passed for payment on the recommendation of the Finance Committe, The overseer's report was read and considered. The following letters were then read:—From Mr J, S, Handyside, requesting leave of absence which was granted; from Mr Miller requesting that a culvert be put in the watercourse near his house; from Mr Sheath, requesting that the voail. from the station to the beach be repaired; from Mr Baker, requesting payment of ferry salary; from Chief Surveyor,' with map of East County; ■ from Mr F| G. Moore, requesting to know when the Board would be prepared to relinquish the control of County and Main roads; from Messrs Handyside & Co., asking that the fords in Aohanga river be repaired; from the Treasury, stating that the rates on Crown Lands had been paid into the Bank of New Zealand; from the Masterton Road Board in reference to a claim of £7O for maintenance of Blairlogie road; from Property Tax Department re Crown aud Native Land Bating Act.

Permission was given to the following owners of property to keep gates on the several road lines in the district Messrs Telford, Belliss, Langdon, Miller, Elder and Sheatli, Mr Hawkins also applied to keep two gates on the Bideford road, but his application was referred, to • the County Council.

One tender was received for roadwork at Akitio, but was declined, being in excess of the estimate. The following resolutions were then proposed That all applications for gates on main or county roads be referred to the County Council, and that all the applications for gates on the district roads be allowed. That the attention of Messrs Elder and Miller be called to the unsatisfacr tory state of the gates on the Blackhill line, and that they be requested to comply with the regulations or the gates will be removed, •

That the attention of the Council be drawn to tho state of the ferries at Aohanga and Akitio rivers with a view of having them placed on a proper footing, also to ascertain whether the Council in taking over the main and county roads intend 'to take the management of tho ferries out of tho hands of the Board, That tho several fords in the Aohanga river be repaired. . '

That the road from 1 Mataikawa to the beach be repaired. That a culvert be placed in the creek near • Mr Miller's house, That tho Government be again requested to grant funds out of the money received by them from the sale of Crown Lands in this district, to assist in making roads to the sections lately purchased. - That a written undertaking be sent to the M'asterton Board for them to sign before the £7O is paid on account of Blairlogie road.

That Mr Elder's application to close a portion of Whakaroro road be postponed until next meeting, That the County Council be. informed that this Board will be- prepared to relinquish the charge of the main and County roads on tho 14th inst.

That tenders be called for the erection of a Road Board office, to closo on the 22nd. .

The following accounts were passed for paymentMangapakcha road, £2114s j Castlepoint road, £46 os9d; Eketahuna road, £3l 3s; No. 1 Ward, £1 Is; No, 7 Ward, £35 6s; Salaries, £l6 18s sd; Rent, £2; Blacksmithing £1 ss; Stamps <fec, 7s sd. It was agreed that about £I2OO for the Uriti road, and £450 for the Tenui Valley road should bo raised under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act,

The next meeting of the Board was fixed for Saturday the 29th inst.
