PAHIATUA ROAD BOARD.
The first meeting of the newPahiatua Road Board washeld at noon on Monday last at Mr -Mann's Poat Office' Store. Preßent—Messrs MoOardle, Davy, Crewe, Ohamier, Avery, Smith and Hall. On the motion of Mr Davy, Mi' W. ¥. McOardle was unanimously elected chairman of the Board,
The chairman, elect, thanked tho meeting for the confidence it had reposed in him, and promised lo do all in his power to promote the interests of the district, He thought it would be necessary to appoint a Committee to arrange with the Maslerton Road Board for any balances due to Pahiatua, and also lor their share of the &00 promised by the County to tho Musterton Board, There was also an amount due to them for Crown and Native land ratos, and on account of rates of deferred paymentlauds. Thoy would also h&vo to elect , officers to carry on thiir business, and draft a short cade of standing orders.
Mr (Jhauiier proposed that Mr McCardk^ should act as the committee to iirranxW^ with the County and Road Board. "'*■

MrSedcole was then nppoin'Bi Oleik and Hemming Officer mi the mo-ion ■,( Mr Crewe, At the suggestion of Mr Chamier, Mr Siedcole was requested to give seotk.ity tu the amount of 125 for the performance of his duties.
The Chairmm thought that Mr Ohamier would make a pood Treasurer Mr Ohamier—That depends upon where you bank! Mr Ghamier was then appoint! Treasurer on the understanding that the Board banked at Woudville.
Tho question of who wero to be tin* first retiring members of the Board was then fixed by ballot, the lot falling t> Messrs Hall, Chamier and Orewe, On the motion of Mr Ohamier, it was resolved—That the monthly meeting of the Board should he held on tho" Satur days nearest to oaoh full moon, • It was decided that at tho next meeting of the Board the question of the Clerk's salary should be considered. A general disouesion ensued, in which "ho Chairman gave his opinion on the best methods of opomntr up Orowu Lands by three chain wide clearings Mr Davy wished to know if tho County
were suspended whether the Government would give the work of opening up Crown lands to them.
The Chairman replied that they would as they were dissitisfied with tho manner ' in which the County had done the work, At the rate of projjreai tnndo by the County it would t ike fifty yo irs to accom plish what ought to bo d mi in ten.
Mr &\nve blamed tin Government for tho manner in which ihey moved their survey stall abous. The Chairman alio &ta*e-l that unless tho County were propped 10 do Govommont work on a loss expensive scale tho Government would take it nut of llioir hands.
An application from ihe Eximiuof Office tn supply stationery was then read, and referred to Mr Oluniier and the clerk,
The mee'ng then adjourned to the 12th April.
