SPORTING NOTES.

(Br Tipster,) The meeting of the Wairnrapa Jockey Club just concluded lias gone a long way to mark the .rapid strides made in . the;breeding of',race horsea in this district, and will '.long be remembered by the brilliant success of the "Premier" blood, in five of.'.the principal events _ on the programme, viz., "Derby," Stakes, District, Cup, and Grand Stand Handicap. That Mr Tahcred has done more.than any other individual to.iraprove the breed of race horses in the'Wairarapa cannot be denied, and there can be none buc who will justly wish him continued success on the turf, That Consul would win the " Derby'! could not be doubted for an instant by anyone that had any knowledge of the merits of horses that went to the. post, but the triple victories of The Administrator was indeed a surprise, and raised the son of Premier not only in estimation but in weight, as the handicap (9st 41b) in the Grand Stand Handicap shews. Before going further, perhaps a comparison, in the time of previous races with the present ones will serve to shew that the pace in most cases is improved;.. ."In the Stokes Administrator's 2mm 17|secs was a scconga. quicker than Kakapo's in 'B2, and and a half seconds quicker than the same horse's time in 'B3; Libeller walked over in 'Bl, and in Lara's year, 'BO, no time was taken. The roan colt's "Cup" time 3min 47sccs was beaten by Danebury 3min 40sccs ■('!) in 'Bl, Diver doing it in 'B2 in 3mm 49secs, Hippodamia in 3niin 51|sees in 'B3, and Laertes time in 'BO was not taken. Respecting Danebury's record, something appears radically wrong about it; that lie should do it in 17 seconds less than the average time, and not being pushed either, seems most extraordinary, but perhaps it is moantfor3min 50sec, which would be nearer the mark, The Administrator having carried off the Nursery Handicap, of'B2 out of a field of eight, won his maiden 1 mile and a distance, at the W.J.C. Spring Meeting, 'B3, carrying 9st in 2min. B|sec, beating Kopi, 7st 121b, and five others. At the same meeting lie won the County Plate Handicap, lmin 52fsec, carrying Bst 41b, Romp, Kopi, The Meld, and four others boing in tho race. The following week ho beat Ninette, Bst 41b in the Birthday Cup, (2 miles) at the Taratahi meeting, the roan carrying 7st 81b, and had tho mare licked half milo from home. His performances away from home have also proved what he is made of, especially at tho Spring Meoting of the Wellington Racing Club, whore he ran a dead heat with Sir George in the Railway Plate, in 2min. 80{sec, and then going out shortly after, and winning the Flying Stakes in lmin 20sec, beating Poet, Treasurer, and others. At the last summer meeting of the same Club it will be remembered that he finished third in the Stewards Handicap 1| miles, being beaten by Norman by, and Salvage, not more than a length separating the trio. Time, 2min 43|scc. Me also finished second to Mischief in the Railway Stakes Handicap, three-quarters of a mile, time lmin 21 sec and second to Loch Lomond in the Consolation, Taken as a whole his performances are very creditable, and in him we have a horse that the district may justly be proud of. As Consul's performances have already been enumerated we will just see what the next best performers at our Autumn meeting have to their credit Glaioks ran three seconds viz,, Stakes District, and Grand Stand Handicap, and Ninette one second in the Cup, and two thirds—Stakes and District. Glaieks a Mangle colt, first made his mark at the last Opaki meeting whore lie was pipped on the post by Consul in the Railway Plate Handicap. He won his maiden l|milcs at the 1884 Featkerston meeting in 2min 23 and one- • fifth seconds, beating Swordsman, Te Whiti, and four others, and the Flying Stakes three-quarters of a mile at the same meeting, carrying Bst, in lmin 19sec, The Field, Bst, and First Water, Bstl2lb being a dead heat for socond place. Ninette the popular Southern Chief mare, has perhaps been the best performed mare wo have had in the district. Wc first find her in the Produce Stakes at the W.J.C. meeting of 'BO, where she ran very well, but was not placed. At the same meeting she ran third in the Southern Chief Produce Stakes, being beaten by Kokotau Ist, and Mountain Deer 2nd. Six ran. In the W.J.C Spriug Maiden, 1882, wo find her unable to get a place, but the Tinui Maiden in 1883 was carried off by the mare, Gabble, Mischief, and ■ four others being in the race. The Ladies Purse W,F.A. at the same meeting fell, to her lot, Gabble Bstl3lb, Treasurer, list 51b, and five others being beaten by the mare carrying 12st lib. The Carterton-Taratahi Stakes W.3H. she won in a canter, ... and van second, to Administrator in the Birthday.Cup, carrying Bst.4lbj giving the colt 91bs. In the Opaki Stakes of 1883 she carried 9st 41b, and ran third to Firstwater 7st 51b and Odd Trick Bst 101b. In tho District at the ™g meeting with Bst 121b up ran seco'qHH Konini 6st 71b, beating Consul, and others, At Martinborou,' & won the L.VJ.C. Handicap with 9st up, Kopi 7st, Firstwater 7st 91b, and Bamboo 6st 81b, also ran. In the Flying Stakes ran 3rd same weight up, being beaten by Romp 6st 81b, and FirsiwaterTst 41b, four others ran, In the Featherston R.C. Handicap, 1883, with 9st she was not placed,.but won tho Consolation, carrying Bst 101b, beating Treasurer 7st 51b. Konini 6at 13, Kate Kelly and Gabble at 6st 101b.. Gabble went inside a post in this race, came in first, and was disqualified. At the Taratahi Summer Meeting, with a penalty of 9st 41b in the T. and C.J.O. Handicap, was beaten by Firstwater' 7sfc 61b, Romp 6st 71b, and' Field Bst, eight ran. In the Anniversary Handicap, same weight up, was again ;beaten by Firstwater 7st 101b, and; Swordsman 7st 61b, four, others van. -..,:

Having gone further into the performances' of the horses than 'tfas first intended the remarks on the Autumn* Race Meeting must be deferred for the present. . (iTo k MmtA/
