WELLINGTON V. HAWKES. BAY.
Second Day. ! This cricket match was continued and finished yesterday. The. weather ■■ was again splendid and the attendance of the public larger than on Tuesday. Both teams scored exactly 100, in the first innings, and a close finish was, of course, anticipated; but the uncertainty of the game was again realised, Wellington in their second innings put together 198, very nearly double their first day's performance. Some very •good cricket was shown, especially by. Kennedy, Roberts, and Wilson, who all made more than averago scores, One hundred and ninety-eight was rather a tall number for the visitors to top, still they went in with the intention of putting together three figures, but the bowling of Firth was altogether . too much for them ; eight wickets for 13 runs is an analysis seldom seen, but such is recorded to the credit of the Wellington captain. The second innings of Hawkes Bay was ut very' short one, and closed for only 32, leaving Wellington the victors by 166 runs—Times,
