Invercargill, Tuesday, A- large building in Esk-street, formerly used as a flour mill, but lately a storehouse ' for Trew and Hall, ironmongers was burned at 3.20 this morning. By the efforts of the Fire Brigade it was managed to confine the fire to one building, owned by the Hon. W. Woods, and uninsured. The stock was insured in the Hanseatic for £3OO, but the loss exceeds that by £3OOO. Auckland, Tuesday. Trig surveys of native territory are being rapidly proceeded with, Mr Cuzzeil, the officer in charge of the ; party has penetrated as far as Tuhua at the head of tho Wanganui river, toselect the most commanding, points for a station,. New Plymouth, Tuesday, Mr R. -Wright's house at Rahotu was burned down last night. It is believed to bo insured for £2OO but the office is unknown.
Wellington, Tuesday. •At the K.M. Court a charge of false pretences against P. If. Watty was dismissed, but defendant was committed for trial on another charge of forging J. and W. Staples' namo to a bill. The case Smith ,& Wilson v Mcßae, of ; Christchurch. is postponed till tomorrow.
