KUMPUNI WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL.
—.— o - The annual, tea meeting in connection with tlio above took place yesterday afternoon. The children, of whom there were a large number present, had tea in Mr Pybus' paddock, and indulged in numerous games, the beautiful weather rendering the outdoor gathering most enjoyable. The adults had tea in the Kuripuni Public Hall, after which a public meeting was held in the same building, which was crowded. The Rev. L M. Isitt presided, and called, upon Mr 0. E. Darnell. to read the annual report, which he did as-follows:—.
REPORT. Our school baa now been opened three and a half years, during which time it has steadily increased in numbers Th.B number at present on the roll ia: —girls, 56: boys, 69 j total, 125 : teachers: male, 8; female, 5; total, 13 ; beiug an increase in tho year of 5 children and A teachers. The attendance of childrou has improved, the average for last quarter being 81, with an average of 9 teachers in attendance. The figures apply to the afternoon meeting Six months since the committee decided to open a mowing school, which has proved very successful, the average attendance being 48 scholars and five teachers. From tho proceeds of last anniversary services, the committeo decided to apply the sum of £i 103 to tho purchase of books, which should form the beginning of a small library. "With this money, and by tho kindnesß of soveral friends, we have uow 75vblumos, This library is well used by scholars and teaohera. Periodicals are given to oach child every month ; this we believe to be a good way of distributing "goodnews," Our income for tho year was 18 lfis Id. Our oxponditure was'.-Rent, £1 10a; library, £2 OS 3d; subscription to Mastorton on occasion of fire, £1 i magazines, £1 10a 9d; books for school, £Z 10a. Our liabilities now amount to £2 for rent and hooks. During the last year we have lost one valued friend and helper, in the person of Mr John Pybus; he was librarian, and took great interest in all that pertained to the welfare of our school. Ho.died, leaving a bright testimony that Christian teaching was not in vain.
The report wasadopted unanimously. Addresses were delivered by the Chairman, and the Rov. Mr Young, of Greytown, and Messrs Arnold, McGregor, and others, The, children, under the leadership of Mr Ford, added, considerably to the evenings' entertainment with their very effective singing, some of the little pupils also contributed recitations, which were pleasingly received by the audience. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Ford, the ladies who contributed so 'much''to make the affair a success, and to all who have given assistance to the Sunday School, and a very enjoyable meeting concluded.
