Sir W. J. Clarke lias been the in strument in securing a portrait of Lord Melbourne tor the Melbourne National Gallery. It is painted by Mr Dowling, R.A., a native of Tasmania.. The funds for tho statue of Robert Tannahill, which was recently unveiled at Paisley, were obtained from open air concerts given in Gleniffer Braes during several past summers.
