Captain Holmwood has cropped the flaU around'his homestead |his'season and has been rewarded with some excellent crops, the whoat (77 ' aicres) being especially good; I'he 10 acres of oats will be a fair average crop?.;! • Mr Kummer has one of the jbest crops of oats yet grown on the o|iaki, his 20. acres being a sight : sufficient to gladden the hcavt of "any farmer! ; Ho has also a .fair crop of 20 acres of wheat.
:■ Messrs Bannister-Bros crap, of joats (25 acres) on the Opaidis cutting very "well-, and will top their last year's returns. They are doing their work, | with op .of Hqrnsby's side deliverers, i Mr A. Matthews has handHicd!his-' 15 acres of oats, which have turned out well; but on account of his wlieat being short in thestraw, with splendid .heads, he is using a, wire binder afc it. ; , There are a few crops on thetUpper Opaki, the. largest area belonging 1 to Mr James Welch, but the quality of the . grain and the quantity of , land under cereals would not warrant a special journoy to that locality, The Akura block haß again proved its growing capabilities to a very successful extent. Messrs Bannister Bros have a 'magnificent ;'crop of'.-white Canadian oats, which is of : such; a heavy nature that the sheaves from 1 the side deliverer liave to tc divided beforo the tiers can do their work. The wheat also is very heavy—so much so that it is probable the machine will only be able to work one way, as the corn is very much , beaten down This crop, 40 acres, of. wheat and 25' oats, ought to hold .first place in the returns of this district this season. '■ Besides Messrs Harding's and Hoffieii's and a. few native crops on this block, Mr Hessev has got 00 acres of the " Bishop's reserve" in wlieat, outi, and barley. The lattpr .(20. acres) has turned out rather light, but the threshing has proved the grain to bo of excellent.quality, The oats and wlieat are both good crops and will be up tio Akura averages. One of Etornsby's reapers and twine binders and a side deliverer has dono Mr Hessey's work, in good style, the ...former .machine doing its duty faultlessly over the most, unfavorable ground, '.
