We 'varn settlers who hate orchards t° watch their fruit. Numbers of resident® in Masterton recently have had their frill trees robbed right and left in the most barefaced and systematic manner. There are evidently light-fingered experts in the town.
We understand that arrangements are being made to have special local trains running on the Ram Fair day (20th inst), Ab the Wairarapa Ram Fair is the only one held in the Wellington province, it has been suggested that a late train should leave the Wairarapa to enable visitors from Wellington and surrounding districts to return home the same ovening. We commend the suggestion to the man-* ager of the railway. The gold and silver medals of theWairarapa and Eaßt Coast Pastoral Society, presentfd on Saturday last, are of a new design and size, suitable to be worn as watch pendants. On one side is a New Zealand scene surmounted by a grape vine, with a hmse, cattle, sheep, and implements depicted in the foreground. The reverse side having the name of tho society, the class, and the name of the winner. These medals were manufactured by a Melbourne firm, as those obiainod last year from Wellington were found on examination to bo of inferior quality. The adjourned meeting of the Featherston School Committee was held at the Schoolroom, Featherston, on Saturday last. Present Messrs Jas. Donald, Branskill, Matthews, and Robertson. " Georgie Smithson" was favorecl with a iarge and appreciative audience at the. Theatre lioyal last evening, and tho hearty and enthusiastic applause evoked by her admiral delineations were unmistakeable evidences that tliia arliato ia a popular favorite, Tho skill with -which Georgie Smithson changes from one character to another, the marvellous rapidity with which her dresses are donned and doffed, and (he beauty of the costumes themselves, excited the wonder and admiration of the audience. In physical powor and vivacity, Georgie Smithson is in advance of any previous actress ivho has appeared amongst lis. Some of lior impersonations, such as" the Lancashire Lass," "Poor Joe." and the Fishwife," proved lhat she possessed histrionic powers "f no mean order, and that tbeso covered a wide rango. Her programme is full of fun, but, like a triie : arlime, she sols nil the lighter shades of her pieces with «vaver studies and mingles; pathos with laughter. Georgie Smithson ia an extremely clever personage, and well deserves tho hi«h reputation she has obtained aa actress, vocalist, and mimic. To-night she reappears with new characters and impersonations, and will no doubt again bo favored with a large audience.

Mr Peacock, the present member for City North, and Mr 'Upton, stationer, have already announced their intention to stand for the seat whenever the vacancy occurs, At ten o'clock yesterday morning a party of tour, viz,, Messrs Parsons, T. 6, ■Mason, G. Dixon and E, Dixon started on horseback up the Waingawa to see if they Could discover any traces of Mr George's parly, They fell in with the objects of their expedition nt the foot of the ranges, but decided that as they had come so far they would ascend the river ■and visit Ihe reef which had been the scene of the prospecting operations. Having taken their horses to the farthest practicable point, they dismounted and did the rest of the journey —some seven miles of uphill travelling—on foot, They reached the reef about 2.30 p,m, and alter a short time spent in inspecting it and resting, they commenced the return journey, After the first mile or two of descent 6ome members of the party found they had overestimated their powersof physical endurance and that they were unfit for further locomoiion. Half way between the retf and the place whero the horses were camped, Mr E. Dixon and Mr T. 6, Mason threw up the sponge, and decided to camp out there although they were wet through and without food, Messrs Parsons and G, Dixon decided to push on down to where the •horses were, in order to obtain food for their comrades, but before they reached the latter spot the shades of night barred further progress, and tlioy bad to camp. They made a littlo fire of twigs and passed the night the best way possible suffering considerably from wot and hunger, At daylight this morning they started for the spot where tho horses were tethered, and proceeded to take food up the ranges to Messrs Mason and B. Dixon, Thev met, however, their comrades travelling down towards them, and the party rejoined thoir horses and started for Masterton. After a toilsome journey they reached home at 1 p.m. thoroughly sick of the ranges and loathing prospecting in every shape and form.
