CARTERTON V. GREYTOWN The first match of the season between the abore Clubs was played in Steward's pad" dock, Greytown, on Saturday, resulting in a decided victory for the home team. Messrß Webster and Bennett captained the teams, The latter won the toss, and took the field, but did not manage to dislodge their opponents until 'they; had run up the fine score of 149, principally owing to the handsome score of Nation, This player went in first and carried his bat right through, bein« not out, 12, and showed some fine cricket, though his inniugs was marred by several chances, one easy at cover point, flawke, Guff, Judd, and G. Jackson also got into double figures. The Carterton men then .handled tho willow to the bowling of fluff and Judd, who were well on, and were disposed of for 18 runs, and had to follow on, Their.second attempt was : rather bettor, 69 being recorded in their favor; Ewon, Nix, Potts and Carter all getting into double figures.
