Three tenders were opened for the above, Mr Thomas Thompson's being the highest (£35 per annum) was accepted, tho Trust reserving the right of making a gravel pit on the ground, with a right of way to it. GRAVEL riT. Mr Gapper moved that the Trust offer the gravel pit reserved on section 29 to the Borough Council at a rental of £5 per annum. Mr McCardle thought £2 would be enough. Mr Gapper said he was quite willing to make it lower if the Trust wished. Mr McCardle then seconded Mr Gapper's motion. Mr Perry moved as an amendment that tho Trustees do not let any portion of the land of tho Trust as a gravel pit. Mr Bish thought it would be a pity to deprive the Council of a gravel pit in tho locality in question, and if it would not damage the property it should be let, Mr Gapper said it would not damage ' the property in any way, Mr Perry said ho did not think the Council would give £5 per year, unless tho pit was close to the road. The secretary said Mr Sheen would givo the Council a right of way through his property while metalling Short street from the gravel pit on section 29. The resolution was then put and carried, Mr Peiry (whose amendment was not seconded) voting against it, POUND CONVENIENCE, The Borough Council applied to the Trust to be allowed to use the remainder of the section on which the pound stands, for pound purposes. Mr Gapper explained the Borough Council would probably build a small cottago on it for the use of the poundkeeper. Mr Gapper moved that the land be let to tho Council for £1 per year. Mr McCardle thought this too low, and advocated tenders being called for the piece applied for, to give others an opportunity of obtaining a piece of land fronting the best street in the Borough after the main road. Mr Bish seconded. He thought £1 per year a fair rental, judging from the rents obtained for lands let recently. Mr McCardle moved as an amendment that the rent should be 30s per annum, which was low enough for land on a first class street. Mr Perry seconded. The amendment was then put and carried on tho casting vote of tho Chairman, who considered the extra 10s would not make much difference to the Borough, The meeting then adjourned.
