THE WELLINGTON WOOLLEN MANUFACTURING COMPANY (LIMITED.)
(From the N.Z. Times,) A meeting of the directors was held yesterday at the Company's temporary offices, Lambton-Quay, at 3 o'clock. Mr Harcourfc, chairman, presided. Messrs Williamson and Co., brokers to the Company, produced applications for upwards of 10,000 shores, representing more than £50,000. Great satisfaction was expressed at tho position of affairs, and proceedingswill be promptly commenced. The directors decided to allot the shares applied for at once, and the appointment of a clerk to the company, and office arrangements, were left in the hands of the chairman. When it is understood that seven public companies, within a period of some 18 months, have been flung on the Wellington market, it is a matter of much surprise that a response so immediate and conclusive in regard to this important. Woollen Company undertaking has been manifested.
The concern, however, tho brokers inform us, has been thoroughly popular of itself, otherwise it never could have, under the circumstances, succeeded so well. The energy and ability of the brokers are, nevertheless, beyond all praise.
It may be mentioned that very great interest is attached by the Masterton settlers to the establishment of the works in their locality, but for that part of it so are every district and township in the whole of Wairarapa. We understand that the, Masterton peoplehave.ofFeredto subscribe 420,000 if they are gratified ill thematler; but the directors have declined to pledge themselves meantime in any way,
