FEATHERSTON HIGHWAY BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Featherston Highway Board was held on Saturday, Decembor Ist, PresentMessrs Jas. Donald (Chairman) McDougal, Elgar, Mathews, Bidwill, Tully, and Dudding. The -minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, . The Treasurer's statement showed a balance of £2OO 12s (Id, Accounts to the amount of £2212s 4d were passed for payment, CORRESPONDENCE. Prom Mr McDougal requesting that the Board, reconsider their decision and grant him £lO towards making a raid from Pahaua to Mount Adams,. From T. Kennedy, complaining of the slip bars on the road to Hikinui erected by Mr G. Harris. Kesolved,—That the Board have.no; power to vote the rate to be spent on ; private rOads, but that steps will ba taken to connect the road now laid off by the Government, with the Paha.ua-' Martinborough road. That the Clerk be instructed to write to Mr G. Harris and request him to remove the slip bars immediately. From 0, Phillips and J, Hodge applying to have some of their rates spent in clearing the bush off tho Battersea road. Prom County Council authorising the Board to appoint a poundkeepw and erect a pound at Waihenga, also cancelling the appointment of JYW. Laimbeer to impound cattle in tho Feathorston Road District.
The matter of arranging the Publ& Pound at Waihenga was left in t'.Jh hands of the Warden It was proposed b'y'Mr Bidwill anft/tf' seconded by Mr C. Elgar, that jmjf ! Laimbeer's appointment as. ranger IS.. cancelled, and that applications for the'?
office be invited at a salary of £3O a year.
A letter was read from the Public Trust Office, notifying that the application for a loan of £6OO for works to::
be performed in the Kauhautara dis-
trict, and also one of £650 for the Battersoa road district has been granted by the Minister of Public Works, provided that the provisions of the Act were complied with. Tenders were received for metalling the lower Valley road from Dry River, the tender of H. Fry being accepted at 23s per chain. Mr Knapp applied to ■ the Board to have the road through his land fenced off.
It was resolved that-the opinion of the Board's Solicitor be obtained as to their liability to fence. The Committee appointed to enquire into the application of Mr S. Smith for a road out of Section 6 to connect with the public road near Mr G-. Pain's old house, reported that they did not deem it necessary to make any alterations.
A discussion then took placo respecting the road through the Native block.
It was proposed by Mr Duddiug,, and seconded by Mr Bidwill, that application be made to the Government to lay off the road from tho corner of Section 3 to the corner of Section 9, through the Native Block 75 Middle Waihenga, under the Nativo Lands Act, and also to extend the road to tho lower ford of the river. It was resolved that the application of Jas. Donald that the gates on tin road to the Western Lake through the Featherston Ward be removed, bo granted, and the Clerk notify tho same. It was also resolved that the XJlerk ,be instructed to procure a set of blocks arid tackle for the use of the Bpard. Tho meeting then terminated.
