TINUI

[FROM OUlt OWN COHRESFONDENT.]

Work has been retarded very seriously in this neighborhood by the late heavy rains. On Saturday and. Sunday last the weather was exceptionally rough, and the rivers rose to snch an extent as to be unfordable for several days, The roads have suffered a good deal of damage, several slips having occurred both on the Castlepoint and Mangapakeha roads. On the latter line the approaches to the large bridge have been, undermined and rendered anything but safe for traffic. Mr Perry, overseer of the Road Board, is about to execute'the necessary repairs at once. • Should the present warm windy weather continue, this road will be open for traffic in about ten day's time. 1

Shearing is'far from completed yet, and very little wool has passed through Tinui en route for Castlepoint,

The cricketers of Tinui have challenged the Knights of this Willow, employed on Langdale and lea stations, to play a match on Dec. 12th at lea, The following gentlemen will represent the township, yin;,—Messrs P. Taylor (Captain), W. Smith, , li, Maunsell, jun., Vennel, Lindop, Freer, Ward, Hendersen, Torrey, O'Kane and Sheeman, The names of the opposing eleven are not to hand, but I hear the challenge will be accepted, ' Bets are being made against' the station em ployees,

Residents interested in education will note .that, tenders have been accepted for tho erection of the new school here. ..1;

Subscriptions seem coming in freely towards our local . races, some £SO being now on the list at. Mrs Owen's hotel,
