It has transpired'that orders have been forwarded to Admiral Sir William Hewetfc, commanding the naval squadron in the East Indies, to proceed without delay with H.M.S. Euryalus and other vessels of his fleet to the Red Sea, with the view of affording British support to Egyptian interterests in that locality. The Admiralty has, moreover, issued orders for a gunboat, now in tho Mediterranean, to proceed to the Red Sea as. a reinforcement to the Indian squadron.

In conaequonce of tho recent annihilation of the Egyptian army in the Soudan, the British Government has decided to postpone the ovacuation of Cairo and the withdrawal of a portion of the British troops now in Egypt for the present, in . accordance with the advice of Major Sir Evelyn Baring, tho British Diplomatic Agent in Egypt. ;';

Considerable anxiety is being felt for' the safety of tho Egyptian garrisons in the Soudan, According to the latest intelligence, all the available troops wero being concentrated at Senear and Khartonn, and wero taking up a defensive position in view of a probable attack by the followers of El Mahdi.
