Press Association, . t FATAL BOAT ACCIDENT AT r NAPIER. ' ■ . "j Napier, November 11. A sad boat accident, which resulted in the death of three men occurred this evening. Captain Setten, of the ship , Pleiades, now lying in the bay, with a creiv of four men, came ashore for the / first mate.' There was a nasty ripping i sea on the bar, but the boat arrived safely, and started to return with a -, crew of six parsons.. A nasty sea was ', running, but the captain gave orders to start, On the bar, a sea struck tho . boat broadside on, and capsized her. Kraeft and Captain Tonquin, of the ' barque Lnngstone, immediately started ] to the rescue, and the pilot's boat was on the scene of the accident within three minutes. Only three men (the ■ captain and two A.B.'s) were saved, the ; first and third mate and one A.B. being drowned. [ Naher, Monday. ' The following are the names' of the '' crew of the boat which capsized :—Oapkin ; Setten, K. A. Stevens, chief officer, L. 0. Veitch, third officer, T, Kew, J. L. Grey, seamen, and A. H. Kirby, apprentice, all of the abip Pleiades. Captain Setten clun? to the overturned boat, and Kirby secured the boat's mast, BBaman Grey and the first mate dung to an oar, the mate olenching the handle and Grey the blade in his teeth and swimming strongly in endeavor to savo himself and companions. When the rescue boat was noaring the scene of the accident two men disappeared, and when within a few yards of Grey and his companion a wave Bwept the latter away and ho was never seen afterwards, Captain Setten had just become unconsoious when he was palled into the boat.
