: V : v Donedin, October 29. A tb^ee•montll3 , old son of Mr Join thV^b'J 88 8 mother, who, it is said, has been drinking, overlaid the child.

At the inquest to-night the. evidence showed that the mother and father had both been drunk on Sunday afternoon. The death of the child had been caused by suffocation, either by the mother overlying the child or in some way heaping the clothes over it. A verdict of manslaughter was returned against the mother, and the father was severely reprimanded by the coroner and jury.
