CORRESPONDENCE, t'.-Oiminfru' -in ill (TO THE EDITOE.) Sir,-In your report of Mr Coleman Phillips' lecture on " Land" I am made to say that the Land Act of 1882, after being modified, was finally thrown out by. thfl Upper Howe. What I did say wa» that the principles of land nationalisation embodied in it was modified by the inter* tion of a conditional purchasing clause, and that with this condition it was finally passed, I also mentioned that another Bill was introduced last session for tbe further amendment of the Land Aot, which contained a clause providing for the repeal of this right of purchase. This waa passed by the Lower but reieotefl by the Upper Hotiae, lam, &e., W. O. Topurupuru, 22nd October, 1883.
