DANIEL O'CONNELL is a bay, stands over 16 hands, and if good shape, size, breeding, and performances, go for anything, this son of Daniel O'Rourko should begot the class of horse required in the Wairarapa, His performances at Tauhercnikau, where he led his field throughout in the Spring Maiden, and would have won tho County Plate immediatoiy aiter but for a bad start; also at Opaki, whero ho won the Eailway Handicap, carrying Bst 101b, and then ran such a good second for the Opaki Handicap, carrying Bst 61b, were well-tested exhibitions of courage and stamina, which established his claim to be not only a fast horse but an undeniably game one, Daniel O'Connell stood tho 1881 season at Kaikoura, Marlborough, where he gave every satisfaction, proving himself a suro foal-getter; and immediately after the season ended ho was entered for and won tho Kaikoura County Cup, which his owner presentod to tho Racing Club as a trophy to bo run for by his stock when two years old. Thirteen of his foals were entered for this race; and lam informed on undeniable authority, that his stock cannot be purchased under high prices there. As a 5-year old at the Canterbury Metropolitan Meeting he won the Free Handicap, carrying top weight, 9st, one mile, beating Foul Play, Camballo, Sinking Fund, Luna, Lara, and others; time, lmin 4Gsec. Won the Railway Plato, weight for age, halfmile, and tho Metropolitan Handicap, carrying Bst 41b, 1J miles, having behind him Fish-hook, Ariel, Longlands, Natator, Bribery and others.
