At (i meeting of Court Wairarapa on Wednesday evening, two brothers from [ Court Marquis of Normandy waited on thorn as a deputation asking for. loan of banner for their ball on the night of the show at Carterton. I The Greytown Horticultural and Industrial Society intend holding their spring show on Thursday, the 6th of December. Mr Coleman Phillips will lecture at the Greytown Working Men's Club on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. on the subject of " Land." This question is one thai is now occupying the attention of a great nuinber,'and we trust that advantage will be taken of this opportunity of hearing Mr Phillips' views upon it. The Greytown Cricket Club open this seaßon on Saturday with a match, married v. single. The match will commence at 2,30, and the.teams will be picked from those on the ground, A pitch has been rolled and a good afternoon's sport will be the result. The Club has aocipted challenges from both the Midland and the Wellington Clubs, : both matches to be played at Greytown, the former on the 9th November and the latter on the following day, • The Maaterton Volunteers held a parade in the Union Olub buildings last evening, when the letter from the Defenco Oice re the recent_ trouble between the corps and the major commanding was read. The letter stated that the Hon the Defence Minister, having .enquired into and considered the circumstances of the matter set forth in the letter of the oorps tendering the resignations of its members, was of opinion that the oorps did not parade on the occasion in question in a satisfactory manner; but looking at all , the ciroumstancos, and especially at the fact (hat new uniforms had been ordered, j he admitted no very grave censure was i required; and that whatever censure , Major Bunny thought if his duty to convey to the corps the occasion selected was not a fitting one for'the purpose. The Defence Minister, however, did not think Major Bunny attaohed so muoh importance to his expressions as was attached by others.andno doubt had no idea he was wounding the feelings of the members of the company, The Government would be extremely sorry, considering their past services, if the members persisted in their resignation, and the Defence Minister. hoped the occasion wouldsoon cease to be remembered.—The corps, lifter hearing the letter read, resolved to let the matter drop and'not persist in; their resignation. Captain 1 Donald then, reported the resignation of Lieutenant T. Hl'Hillj and fixed the'Bth of November as the date on which the vaoanoy was to be filled up.: The captain' also stated that as- the corps had deoidod to -resign he would forward on the or,derfor the uniforms aa early as possible. Hie company waa then dismissed,
