THE RABBIT QUESTION,

Dunedin, October 9,

A deputation from Wnihemo County waited on the Hon. Mr Dick to-day. It included Messrs J. McKenzie and H.,S.Fish,M.H.R.'s and Mr Stout. The principal complaint was that small settlers cleared their lands, which were, however, again overrun by rabbits from the larger estates and runs, and hints of favoritism on the part of inspectors were made. It was suggested that the counties should have the control of the administration of the rabbit question, and Mr Stout thought a law might be passed giving a man the right to sue a neighbor when ho was injured by rabbits coming off his neighbor's land.

A CURIOUS MARRIAGE CELEBRATION.

Dunkdin, October 8,

Francis Dougherty, a laborer, residing at South Dunedin, was received into the hospital at 3.45 this morning suffering from a large cut on the right side of the head. He was bleeding very much, and the cut, which was five inches long, was dressed by the acting lesident surgeon, Dougherty got injured in this way :—A son of his got married yesterday, and Dougherty, being opposed to the marriage/ is said to have got drunk in consequence. About 2 o'clock this morning he went with an axe to attack the young couple at the house of 'the bride's father. The police were sent for, but before their arrival Dougherty had broken the windows, and a melee had occurred, in the course of which he received the cut referred to.
