The Post, referring to our paragraph re the smart running on the local railway on the occasion of His Excellency's visit, says:-" It may be interesting to add to these figures (assuming them to have been correctly quoted) the further information that two years ago s return excursion train leaving Maßterton very early in the morning ran thence to Wellington in 3 hours 12 minutes, including all stoppages, IS in number, or 2 hours and 20 minutes actual running timo; also that in July, 1879, an experimental train of ten heavily loaded vehicles with a singleFairlie engine ran from Wellington to Upper Hutt in 85 minutes, and the same ermine, with two carriages, made tho return trip from the Summit to Wellington in exactly one hour, Upper Hutt'to Wellington hi 32 minutes, and Lower Hutt to Wellington in 13 minntea; two miles between Upper Hutt and Silver Stream being coverod in 2 minutes 16 seconds, or at the rata of, as nearly as possible, 53 mileß an hour,
A committee meeting of the Mastorton Horticultural Society was held last' evening. Tint following report was brought up and adopted :--'• Your com miitee beg to report that they held two meetings, to one of which the public were invited, It was unanimously decided to recommend, (1), That the Poultry Show be proceeded with ; (2), That Mr Elkinß* offer to show for exhibition only be accepted with thanks; (3). That the catalogue of the Wellington Society be adopted aa far bb it applied to poultry and canaries; (4) That the prizes befr 6d for firatprize and 5s for second prize; (5). That the charge for entranoe be: for non members 3s 6d per pen, and for members h per pen, excepting for canaries, which shall be 2s 6d for nonmembers, and Is 6d for members; (6). That the pens be not larger than 2ft Gin high, 2ft Gin long, and 2ft wide. Your committee also recommend that the second prize be no' awarded unless {here be three entries in a class."
