From A, Napier, stating that he had been rated for more land than he had.
From Messrs O'Malley k Pepperoll, stating that the road deviation on the railway line was completed and opened for traffic.
From Secretary Post and Telegraph Department, je' % washing away of the Idanawafa Ferry punj!,&nd calling attention to the mail oontraotoYs delay, and asking the Counoll to see to. it as soon as possible.—Clerk reported the matter had been attended to.
From Under-Secretary Public Works stating that the Engineer had reported that great improvements had beenmade in the road deviation, and were far better in respect to grades, ic, than the old road was.
From Rev J. C. From surveyor general. 1 stating that the expenditure made as allocated by the County in special notes, and it was for the Minister to nay where the balance of the money be expended. From district engineer, Mr Connal, enclosing tracings shewing deviations to be made in the road through the railway works and asking the Council 10 agree to same. From some Maoris at Upper Taueru threatening to stop a road through their land unless they got cempensai tion.
Mr Beetham explained that he had been requested to get the bush fallen on the side of the road, to let the rays of the sun get.to it, and the Maoris had told him that, when Sir George Grey and Mr Sheehan were up.there they promised that the land should be paid for, and nothing had been done since. The land had not.gone through the Court, and there would consequently be a difficulty in dealing, with, it. From Property Tax •Commissioner stating that the Council would bp kept posted up with all alterations in the valuation list of the district.

From Messrs McCarthy k Dowling, asking that their timber account be passed over to Mr R. Donald. From Messrs Parker and Burke, stating that they' had finished the Hawera contract, and requesting the Council, to grant them a bonus as the road was through a rocky foundation, and the tender W mftdP linger the impression it was oi&y formation, They had consequently lost about LUO, ROAD DEVIATIONS. j The Chairman stated the letter from the public woiks office was the outcome of a complaint made of the inefficient work performed on the deviations caused by the railway works. He considered the Government ought to supply complete information, so that the Council can judge the nature of the work to be carried out. Mr King, County Engineer, in explaining the objections to the work on these deviations, pointed out the rules observed in road making in this district He said the metal put on by the Government was inferipr, and the road much too narrow. . After several members had expressed their disapproval of the nature of the work performed, it was resol-, ved, on the motion of Cr Beethamf seconded by Or the Government be remonstrated with for placing bad metal on the road, and also, to the narrowness of the same; and that the plans submitted are no guide 7 to the Council as to the class of road the deviation should be.' NEW DEVIATIONS, . After some discussion it was decided, on the motion of Cr Williams, seconded by Cr Williams, that the Government should complete information as to the work to be done before the Council do anything in the matter.

Cr Mereditftj|ef(i a claim. on Mr Andrew, The ferry land in equity belonged to the Council, though in law it was his property, Mr Andrew had gained his point and'was not likely to be illiberal. He would propose that the Council offer MrAndrew £25 per annum to maintain the ferry.——Cr Beetham seconded the motion, which was put and carried/ ■ LOWER TiUERU POUND. Cr Meredith asked if the traffic was likely to be stopped by the natives. Cr Beetham replied in the but the Natives would not let them fall the bush which shaded the road.—The Chairman said the Provincial .Government took the road through the land, and the General Government as its successor should settle the difficulty.——lt was resolved j that the application should be referred to the Government.
