The Wairarapa Daily. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1883. THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.
The visit of His Excellency the Governor to-day is in almost every respect a matter of congratulation. We have of course to regret that the weather is not all we could wish it to be, and that the short time which has been at our disposal for making the necessary preparations has not enabled us to do all that might have been done in his honor. Still in spite of these drawbacks His Excellency will no doubt be satisfied with his reception, and be willing to come amongst ns again on some future occasion. Of coursewe are to a certain extent responsible for the somewhat hurried preparations in the present instance. The idea of receiving His Excellency when it was suggested was welcomed with such enthusiam that the prosaic question of ways and means was partly overlooked, The secretary and many members of the Committee have worked hard to do what was possible on a brief notice, and they deserve the thanks of the community for their spirited efforts. Sir William Jervois is a Governer of whom New Zealand is justly proud, and we should have bean sorry if Masterton' had in any way failed to entertain him in a suitable manner.
