Last evening Mr McOardle criticised the terms in which the Town Lands Trust made a grant to the Park Trustees, and the manner in which tho Park Trust is constructing the oval. Mr McCahdle is a member of both bodies, and is therefore in a measure responsible for their acts, On the present occasion it would be as well if lie had been silent. When the Town
Lands Trust determined the conditions oftliePark grant Mr McOardle wasnot at his post,- and at the three last meetingsof the Park TrusteesMr McOardle was absent. When work is to be done Mr McOardle is not to be found, and it is singularly ungraceful on his part to come forward aftorwards and find fault with others, who, unlike him, have attended to their public duties. Mr McOardle declared last ovening that the Park Oval would not carry grass. Now we venture to assert that he makes this statement in error. He has an excellent judgment, but sometimes it is overshadowed by a still stronger prejudice. Messrs MoOhegor and Payton, the sub-committee in charge of the oval, have taken the opinion of practical/men, whof jf ' they do not understand as muoh about planting trees as Mr McOardle, know quite as much about growing grass, and they are satisfied that the Park oval in every part of it will carry a good sward. There is a proverb about certain people judging work when it is lialf finished, and Mr McOardle would been wise to have; borne it in mind, Tho subcommittee has taken a good den,! of .trouble in raising the money to construct the oval, and in seeingjthat.it was formed in the best possible manner, and the result of their labors will stand the test of criticism. If Mr McOARDLB ; had only waited for this result he would possibly have spoken in different terms.
